Buy Nothing New October, Dress to Impress (for Less), Thriftster weddings

Parental thrift

I had planned on writing a post on discount movie tickets tonight but got waylaid by my parents. Dad wanted to show me a couple of outfits he was thinking of wearing in October.

Flat-soled shoes from Mountfords
These flat-soled shoes are the only new things my dad will be wearing on my wedding day.

Unlike Mum, Dad hasn’t bought anything new for my wedding; he had hoped to wear his suit from 1989, the same suit he wore to my sister’s do. We matched the suit with a Givenchy tie from the same decade, and a shirt Dad had bought at a sale a while back. The only new thing he will be sporting on the day is a pair of flat-soled shoes for the lawn bowls green.

Mum’s not so keen on the look. I think she prefers his other suit that is a few decades shy of being retro but isn’t new either.

I wish I could post a photo of him, but Dad would probably be mortified at the thought of having his photo put up online.

Anyway, this will be the last post from me for a while as Cheap Geek and I suit up for the mustbethrifty wedding of the season.

Wish us luck,

M.
